Thoughts of a Tokyo, Japan-based editorial corporate portrait assignments photographer

A gypsy heart.

Happy Valentine’s Day !  I thought I’d post a picture with a connection to Valentine’s day, however tenuous it may be. So I chose this one, as it has a heart in it.

I always liked this heart on the woman’s jumper. The lady is a Roma from the village of Sintesti, in Romania, and the image comes from a large series of photographs I did of Romanian gypsies/ roma over many years.

Meanwhile I’m having anything but a romantic day, I’m in Fukushima on assignment. More nuclear stories in the run up to the 1 year anniversary of the Tohoku triple disaster of earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster.

  1. As Francios Hardie (spelling incorrect) sang ‘All over the world’ – hearts and romance are universal. And come in all disguises.
