Eikoh Hosoe at FCCJ
Photography exhibitions at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Japan took a big step forward last night as legendary Japanese photographer Eikoh Hosoe opened a small show of his work. Under the stewardship of Tony McNic0l, the man now responsible for filling the walls of the club with art and photography, the exhibitions have gone from strength to strength in recent months. Not only is more and better work being shown, but the monthly opening night soiree’s are now creating a small social circle, a small community, which as freelancers know, is important. So more power to Tony, and the FCCJ.
Eikoh Hosoe’s work on show comprises selections from three of his projects. The famous collaboration with Yukio Mishima ‘Barakei’ (Ordeal By Roses) are all beautifully presented as platinum prints ( printed by Hosoe’s son), large (newly printed) images from his nudes series called ‘Embrace’, and some beautiful silk screens showing work, exquisitively printed from digital output onto Japanese washi paper, from his ‘Kimono’ series where he photographs one woman over a period of many years.
The show runs until 26th June. Go and see it.
