Thoughts of a Tokyo, Japan-based editorial corporate portrait assignments photographer

Some reading matter

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, and it is ever more pertinent this year, all photographers, snappers, wannabe-snappers, have to understand that this ‘lifestyle/job/career/passion’ (delete as appropriate) isn’t just about shooting pictures, wearing Afghan hats and scarves, and drinking lattes with your M8 on the table beside you. IT IS A BUSINESS, and you have to treat it as such, you have to know what is going on.

Two of the better blogs out there for reading these days, for industry news have to be John Harrington’s Photo Business News and Forum, and Rob Haggart’s A Photo Editor. They can give you clues to what is happening, part of helping you to figure out your own place in this whirlpool of chaos of agencies, and stock, and assignments, and lowering fees. And if you’re a young guy wanting to get into the profession then you really have to understand what you’re taking on.
