Thoughts of a Tokyo, Japan-based editorial corporate portrait assignments photographer

Well deserved, Tony Suau.

I’m a bit late in mentioning the World Press Photo award results, but anyway, I was pleased to see Anthony Suau win the World Press Photo of the Year (and not for the first time). I’ve always been an admirer of his work, and not only the images but also his work ethic. Take a look at his archive site and see the amount of work that he has, not only the amount shot, but it’s a hell of a lot of work to have actually scanned, keyworded etc and have up on sale. (I’m in the midst of doing the same, scanning up the back archive, getting it up online, and it takes time, effort, it’s not easy). Also impressive is that Tony mostly represents himself, no agency pushing his work (bar Grazia in Italy). But interestingly in this interview for PDN given the day he won WPP he talks of the current work situation he finds himself in, and one that perhaps many photographers are currently facing in this economic downturn. If you wish to see more of Tony’s work you should try finding the now collectable ‘Beyond The Fall‘ book, or his newer ‘Fear This‘ shot in America as George W. Bush took the nation to war ( a classic example of you don’t have to run to where the ‘action’ is, there are many ways to cover a story). Congratulations Tony.
