It’s always great to discover a big body of interesting historical work. Even more so when it’s from your own country. And even more so when you know the photographer, but didn’t know the work.
A few nights ago I discovered this work, ‘Black Gold Tide‘ by Scottish photographer Tom Kidd and author Tom Morton (whose blog NippySweeties is linked on the right of this page), kindly tipped off to it’s website by TokyoLand’s Shetland correspondent John C.

The work depicts the Shetland Islands of northern Scotland in the late 1970′s when oil became the currency of the day, a boom time for the islanders. Make sure you check out the archive to see a treasure trove of images (from where I’ve borrowed the above, many thanks Tom).

Many of the images remind me of another great photographer, a favourite of mine, but I shall keep that for tomorrow perhaps…
