Bert Hardy, one of the great British photographers is one of eleven nominees for a Blue Plaque. Blue plaques are put up in the UK to commemorate the birthplace or residence of famous and important people.
Bert stated from humble beginnings in London’s East End and worked his way up to become the chief photograper on PICTURE POST. He covered D-Day, the Inchon landings and just about every major event that happend from the mid 1930s to the 1950s.
The vote is open to all, but ends TODAY Friday, 29th February.

Bert Hardy did some tremendous social documentary work in the Gorbals housing scheme of Glasgow, Scotland ( just down the road from my house) in 1948. I once had the pleasure of looking through his contact sheets at the Scottish Photography Archive in Edinburgh. They were interesting to see, he shot a few frames here, then different place a few frames, then somewhere else one or two frames. A lot of moving about, not much concentrating in one place. Fascinating to see. Below is one of the great images from that series.
