The 1st of November sees the publication of the book ‘Scottish Photography, a History’, by Dr. Tom Normand. Surprise, surprise, I tell you this as I’m in it. Dr.Normand has very nicely written some kind words about me and my work, and one of my portraits of Romanian gypsies appears beside them.
The publisher’s description of the book reads- ‘Scotland was instrumental in the invention of photography, yet this is the first comprehensive study of Scottish photography. From the pioneering work of Hill and Adamson to the experimental work of contemporary artists, this book provides a history, a setting, and a scale for the growth of photography in this country. From the themes that have emerged in Scotland; portraits and people, land and landscape, documentary and the art-photograph, a cohesive and enthralling argument is built up. An important, informative and highly readable study, which brings Scottish photography onto the international stage.’
The book can be purchased here on Amazon or here at Beyond Words photo bookstore. Another ideal Christmas present me thinks…
And if you’re lucky enough to be in Edinburgh on Thursday 8th November there will be the launch of the book at the Stills Gallery, 23 Cockburn Street, Edinburgh EH1 1PB, 6.30 pm. Tom Normand will give an illustrated talk on how Scotland was instrumental in the invention of photography, and how photography is developing in Scotland today.

Ah so you are now, officially, the most famous Scotsman I`ve met. Congrats on getting in the book, we all know you deserve the fame. Let`s hope it leads to being even busier than you already are.
Take care
