How’s this for a pic…a shot of a 300mm f2.8 lens on fire…..must be depressing to shoot huh? To read the story go to the Reuters blog.

This brought to mind the photo from the WashPost’s “Eyes on War” multimedia that had a 300/2.8 with blood on it when a US Tank fired at the media hotel in Bahgdad. Thankfully no one was hurt this time!

More importantly, there is a 70-210 or 80-200 melting in the foreground.By far the more useful lens. With dig the long-tom is for the sports snapper or as an “elephant gun” for snatches. When was the last time you tried to hold up a 300 2.8 for any length of time? Lens magnification is one of the few upsides of dig. I hope your apology satisfies the Rueter’s lawyers! Iain.x

Iain,
I agree the 70-200 is a great every day lens. And I just changed cameras to full frame digi, and now don’t have lens magnification and truth be told I miss it….
