Sitting here, waiting on a picture desk person calling me back about an unpaid invoice (such is life in freelance world), and messing about on some blogs and I came across this on Mexican Pictures….. a link to the website of a Japanese salaryman photographer called Yamasaki-san, and also here. As someone has already commented on the ‘Mexican Pictures’ blog, Yamasaki-san seems to be heavily influenced by Daido Moriyama, but then so are many snappers here in Japan. Everyone seems to like taking gritty pics of grimy street cats/dogs/ripped posters…..
The shot above is a pic I did of Moriyama-san, taken in Kabukicho red light district in Tokyo, for a UK magazine in my first month living in Japan.
