I was out shooting today, out in the streets of sunny Shinjuku, in downtown Tokyo, and I came across this huge present about to be cermoniously unwrapped. I thought it looked good. I was on my way to a travel agency before it closed, so I didn’t linger long, and perhaps didn’t get quite the perfect shot I had in mind when I saw this scene, and began shooting, but I’m happy with this one, it’ll do the job.
I’ve been working on a Tokyo street pics series for a while now. It all started out in black and white when I first began coming here about 5 years ago, but more recently I’ve been shooting colour and enjoying it. I got bored with black and white.
Chris Steele-Perkins of Magnum has also been shooting a Tokyo street series, it’ll be interesting to see all the work, see where he went and to see his take on this city. His project is called ‘Tokyo Love Hello’, and is due for release as a book next year. I look forward to it.
Todays post was going to be a rant about how long it takes to buy a plane ticket in this city, but after writing the above, and finding Chris’s pics I’ll just leave it…..
Cheers.
